There’s an old saying in the American fire service: “Leather Forever.” It’s a phrase embraced by old-school firefighters who value simplicity, tradition, and American craftsmanship. In a world increasingly dominated by plastics and synthetics, sometimes time-tested natural materials still prevail.

When I discovered Davranov’s Leather Grip Tape, I was cautiously optimistic. After two extremely hot and sweaty summer months in the thick Georgia humidity, the “Classic” Leather Tape on my EDC, pictured here, completely won me over.

It has held up perfectly, still provides a pleasant amount of cushioning, and remains clean without the tacky, sticky feeling common with most grip tapes. I’m a fan.

The one drawback? It doesn’t hold up particularly well to an open flame. Sorry, firefighters.

It’s made from top-grain leather, so it’s exceptionally soft and supple, just the way I like it.
